Elon Musk hints he may limit his international travel

(NewsNation) — Elon Musk is not only concerned about the arrest of Telegram CEO Pavel Durov, but he is also worried about the possibility of his own freedom being in danger in some countries.

“Probably wise to for me to limit movements to countries where free speech is constitutionally protected,” Musk posted on X Friday night.

Musk has been a vocal defender of Durov, who was arrested last weekend when he arrived in France. He’s accused of allowing the Telegram encrypted communications to be a vehicle for false, graphic and criminal content.

Durov said the company abides by European Union laws, and that "it is absurd to claim that a platform or its owner is responsible for the abuse of that platform."

Musk, who bought Twitter and renamed it X, quickly downgraded the platform’s content monitoring. Musk has called himself a “free speech absolutionist.”

Musk’s fears may also stem from X’s legal battle in Brazil, which on Saturday began telling Internet service providers to block X. A judge threatened to do so after X refused to an order to name a legal representative in the country. The order makes X largely impossible to access on the web or on a mobile app in Brazil.
