2 months ago 1442

Sara Atthanayake, the rising actress who plays the bold and outspoken character “Sara” in the popular teledrama Ron Soya, has quickly become a talking point among television audiences. Portraying a strong personality caught in a love triangle, she has drawn significant attention for her performance. In this interview, she speaks about her journey into acting, her role, and her growing popularity.

“It Was an Unexpected Opportunity”

Sara revealed that she had an interest in acting from a young age, but prioritised her education and did not pursue it during her school years.

“After completing my studies and degree, I heard about auditions for Ron Soya. I came to Colombo with my mother and took part in the audition, but I never expected to be selected.”

A month later, she was informed that she had been chosen for the role—coincidentally under her real name.

“It felt like a blessing. Sara in Ron Soya is brave, a little aggressive, but kind-hearted. Starting my acting career with such a strong character allowed me to showcase my abilities in a broader way.”

A Competitive but Creative Industry

Speaking about the acting field, Sara described it as both beautiful and challenging.

“It’s a creative space, but also very competitive. As a newcomer, my goal is to develop my skills and become a respected character actress.”

On Playing a Love Triangle

In the drama, Sara’s character is deeply in love with a man who loves someone else, creating a tense love triangle.

“She loves him intensely, but winning his love is not easy. That’s what makes her appear tough at times.”

Sharing her personal view, she added:

“I believe a partner should be someone who stands up for you no matter what. A relationship without that strength doesn’t have real value.”

She noted that many viewers seem to agree, often messaging her saying they admire the character’s boldness.

Difference Between On-Screen and Real Life

Sara admitted that while she once shared some of her character’s bold traits during her school years, she has since changed.

“Back then I was outspoken and active in sports. But now I live a much quieter life. I prefer the person I’ve become today.”

Views on Love and Relationships

Sara said she has never been part of a love triangle in real life.

“I believe a third person should never come between two people in love. If that happens, it only leads to pain for everyone.”

She also shared that she is deeply attached to her family and keeps her circle small.

Family Support and Early Recognition

Her family has been supportive of her acting career from the beginning.

“My mother says I don’t need to ‘act’ much because I naturally bring myself into the role.”

Before acting, Sara was involved in modelling and won the Best Figure title at the CJ Awurudu Kumariya 2024 pageant. However, she chose to focus fully on acting after entering the field.

Fitness and Personal Style

Sara explained that her physique is the result of disciplined eating rather than gym workouts.

“I reduced weight after school by controlling my diet. I’ve never depended on gym training or artificial methods.”

“I Receive Attention from Both Men and Women”

Addressing her growing popularity on social media, Sara said she often receives admiration for her appearance.

“I get responses from both men and women saying I look attractive. I don’t think appreciating beauty is wrong.”

She added that some women even message her asking how she maintains her physique.

“Sometimes I also appreciate beauty when I see it. There’s nothing wrong with that.”

Fashion with Confidence

Sara describes herself as someone who enjoys fashion from a young age and chooses outfits that suit her personality and body type.

“Whether it’s long or short outfits, I wear what fits me. My family has no issue with my choices.”

She emphasised that fashion should align with one’s identity rather than blindly following trends.

“If you wear something that doesn’t suit you, you end up making yourself look awkward. It’s important to understand your own style.”

A Rising Star

With her confident personality, strong on-screen presence, and growing fan base, Sara Atthanayake is quickly establishing herself as a promising new face in Sri Lanka’s television industry.
