New app reveals political affiliations to US homebuyers

(NewsNation) — A new tech startup, Oyssey, is launching an app that lets homebuyers view potential neighbors' political affiliations based on election results and campaign contributions, according to The Guardian.

Launching this month in South Florida and New York City, the platform believes social factors like age, income, and education influence buyers' decisions over home layouts. A Realtor.com survey shows that 25% of buyers are swayed by local politics.

Oyssey also simplifies working with agents and streamlines contract negotiations.

While marketed as a subscription service, it's free via agent invitations. The platform simplifies homebuying, capitalizing on recent changes requiring buyers to sign contracts and negotiate agent fees upfront.

Oyssey is launching in the wake of a class-action lawsuit against the National Association of Realtors, which now mandates homebuyers to sign contracts with agents and negotiate commission fees upfront.
