Samsung Display and Intel have signed a new partnership to jointly develop next-generation display solutions for artificial intelligence (AI)-specific devices, as well as collaborate on global marketing efforts, the display maker said Sunday.

The two companies formed the partnership during a signing ceremony for a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the Samsung Display Research office in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, Friday. Joining the Samsung Display executives were Hans Chuang, Intel's Asia Pacific & Japan general manager of sales, marketing and communications, and David Feng, Intel's vice president of the client computing group.

Under the MOU, the two sides agreed to maximize their technological synergy and introduce a distinctive AI experience to users.

As part of those efforts, Samsung Display said it will develop display solutions catered to Intel’s latest AI accelerator chips, as well as exploring breakthrough opportunities in the global premium laptop computer market, including high-performance IT devices and AI PCs.

The partnership has also put the two companies together for exhibition projects to promote the evolving technology worldwide.

"With the partnership with Intel, which keeps advancing the future of personal computing, we will be able to accelerate innovating next-generation display technologies,” said Lee Ho-jung, Samsung Display’s vice president for small and medium-size product planning.

"The partnership will usher in an unchartered territory of laptop computer user experiences and allow the two companies to lead the global AI PC market.”

Feng said that Intel is excited to collaborate with Samsung Display in developing groundbreaking visual technologies and enhancements optimized for Intel processors. He added that the partnership will enable both companies to lead the way in shaping the future of the AI PC industry.

Meanwhile, Samsung Display is exhibiting its display products in an exhibition at Kyobo Book Centre in central Seoul's Gwanghwamun in collaboration with Intel Korea and Samsung Electronics. The exhibition, titled "Humans with AI," began on Friday and continues until next month.

At the exhibition, Samsung Display is exhibiting media artist Kim Won-hwa's works on its 77-inch quantum dot OLED televisions, as well as showcasing other high-definition OLED products.

The company has also prepared an experience zone where visitors can compare Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy Book 5 Pro equipped with Intel’s AI chip and an ordinary laptop with an LCD screen.

Samsung Display previously demonstrated its technologies at an AI media art exhibition jointly held by Intel Korea and Samsung Electronics in January 2024.
