(NewsNation) — World leaders are turning to Pope Francis for advice on artificial intelligence.

Pope Francis will join world leaders at the G7 summit in Italy this week to discuss the dangers and risks of AI.

It’s the first time that a pope will be featured at a G7 summit as an invited participant, according to NPR. However, it is not the first time that Pope Francis has spoken out about AI and the risks it poses.

A deepfake image of the pope wearing a white puffer jacket went viral last year, prompting conversation about misinformation being spread using AI technology. Pope Francis has been committed to promoting transparency and accountability during the development of AI, the report said.

While he cautions about the misuse of AI, Pope Francis reiterates that AI can be developed and used for the good of humanity. He is expected to provide examples as to how AI can be used to help the poor and the environment, NPR said.
