Court Fixes April 30 for Hearing of Bribery Case Against Chamara Sampath Dassanayake

The Colombo High Court has ordered that the bribery case filed against Member of Parliament Chamara Sampath Dassanayake be taken up on April 30.

The case, instituted by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), was called today (24) before Colombo High Court Judge Ravindra Premaratne.

After considering the submissions made, the judge directed that the matter be scheduled for a pre-trial conference on April 30.


Allegations of Misuse of Public Funds

The charges relate to an incident in 2016, during which Dassanayake served as the Chief Minister of Uva Province.

According to the indictment, he is accused of committing an act of corruption by depositing a cheque issued for the Uva Provincial Council into his personal bank account.


Proceedings to Continue

The upcoming pre-trial conference is expected to determine the next steps in the legal proceedings, including the framing of charges and trial scheduling.

The case forms part of broader efforts to pursue accountability in alleged corruption involving public officials.
