Iran has expressed its willingness to supply oil and other essential goods to Sri Lanka at any time, reaffirming strong bilateral ties between the two countries.
Speaking at a special media briefing held at the Iranian Embassy in Colombo, Iran’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Alireza Delkhosh, stated that Sri Lanka is considered a close friend and that Iran is ready to extend support whenever needed.
He noted that if Sri Lanka requests oil or any other essential commodities, Iran would be prepared to provide them without hesitation.
The ambassador also emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz has not been closed to friendly nations, addressing concerns over disruptions to global energy supply routes amid ongoing regional tensions.
Delkhosh further stated that Iran does not wish to see Sri Lanka face difficulties and described the country as highly respected by Iran.
He also recalled Sri Lanka’s assistance in rescuing crew members of the Iranian naval vessel IRIS Dena, which reportedly sank following a torpedo attack by a U.S. submarine. According to the ambassador, Sri Lanka had acted promptly even before a formal request was made by Iran, a gesture he said was deeply appreciated.
In addition, the ambassador assured that the Iranian government is prepared to facilitate the return of Sri Lankan nationals currently in Iran if they wish to leave. He added that extensive infrastructure has been established to ensure the safety of foreign residents within the country.
He emphasized that no major issues affecting foreign nationals in Iran have been reported so far, and that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure their well-being.
“If they wish to return to their home countries, arrangements can be made through neighboring countries such as Turkey,” he added.
