A large fire has broken out in an abandoned paddy field in the Maragas Handiya area of Galthude, Bandaragama, according to the Bandaragama Police.
Police said the fire started in a fallow paddy field spanning several acres. Firefighters from the Kalutara Municipal Council Fire Brigade arrived at the scene with two fire trucks to control the blaze.
However, due to the difficulty in accessing the exact location where the fire had started, the fire brigade faced challenges in reaching the site.
Despite the difficulty, firefighters remained at the location on standby amid concerns that the fire could spread to nearby houses.
