A new mechanism has been introduced from today (19) to address issues related to retrieving fuel QR codes for vehicles registered under previously used or inaccessible mobile numbers, authorities announced.
The new feature has been added to the system to assist users who faced difficulties in accessing their fuel QR codes due to mobile numbers that are no longer in use or are now owned by another person. This applies to vehicles that were registered for fuel QR codes prior to March 14, 2026.
Visit the Official Website - Go to the official National Fuel Pass registration portal: https://fuelpass.gov.lk
Under the new system:
- Vehicle owners can retrieve their QR code by entering the correct vehicle number and chassis number to verify ownership.
- Even if a vehicle is already registered under a different mobile number (before March 14, 2026), users can cancel the existing registration and re-register under a new mobile number by providing accurate details.
- By selecting the “Override” option, the previous account linked to the vehicle will be removed from the system, and a new account with updated information will be activated immediately.
Officials stated that once this process is completed, the previous registration will be cancelled, and the earlier user will lose all access and privileges related to that vehicle’s fuel QR code.
This new facility is expected to ensure that legitimate vehicle owners can regain uninterrupted access to their fuel quotas, especially in cases where vehicles were previously registered under inactive or third-party phone numbers.
However, the Ministry of Digital Economy warned that removing or altering QR code registrations for vehicles that one does not legally own is a punishable offence.
The new system is aimed at improving transparency and ensuring that fuel distribution benefits reach the rightful vehicle owners without administrative barriers.
