COLOMBO, Sri Lanka — The Election Commission of Sri Lanka has directed ministries to suspend the distribution of fertilizer and fuel subsidies until the completion of the upcoming general election.
Deputy Election Commissioner for Legal and Investigations B.P.C. Kularatne confirmed that formal letters have been issued to the relevant ministries. The Ministry of Agriculture has been instructed to halt fertilizer subsidies for farmers, while the Ministry of Fisheries has been notified to suspend fuel subsidies for fishermen.
Copies of these instructions have also been forwarded to the Ministry of Finance, Kularatne added.
