Colombo, Sri Lanka – The issuance of new passports will return to normal operations starting Monday, following the arrival of a fresh stock of travel documents this weekend, according to Cabinet Spokesperson and Minister Wijitha Herath.
During a press briefing held this morning (October 15) to announce recent Cabinet decisions, the minister confirmed that the new batch of passports is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka on Saturday. He further assured that distribution would commence immediately on Monday to address any delays.
Meanwhile, the minister also provided updates regarding the e-passport initiative. He noted that a court injunction currently prevents the government from proceeding with the tender process for e-passports. The authorities will focus on advancing the project only after the legal proceedings conclude, ensuring compliance with the court's directives.
This announcement comes as a relief for citizens awaiting passports, following temporary delays in issuance due to stock shortages.
