WindForce PLC has secured a new grid-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Panadura, marking Sri Lanka’s 13th national BESS initiative.
The project, awarded on March 20, will have a capacity of 10 MW / 40 MWh and will be implemented under a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model over a 15-year period.
Investment and Ownership
WindForce plans to invest approximately Rs. 1.73 billion in the project, which will be fully owned by the company and financed through a combination of debt and equity.
Strengthening Grid Stability
The Panadura BESS facility is expected to:
- Improve grid stability
- Support peak demand management
- Enhance integration of renewable energy sources
This aligns with Sri Lanka’s broader transition toward a more sustainable and resilient energy system.
Expanding Renewable Portfolio
WindForce stated that the project will further strengthen its battery storage portfolio and reinforce its role in developing the country’s renewable energy infrastructure.
The expansion reflects increasing investment in energy storage solutions as Sri Lanka moves to balance renewable generation with grid reliability.
